Black Walnuts - A Forgotten Super Food!

Black walnuts are delicious! They are far superior to 'English' [Persian] walnuts; not only in taste, but in their health giving properties. Black walnuts are among the best tasting of nuts! And black walnuts are perhaps the best vegetarian source of Omega-3 essential fatty acids, especially alpha-linolenic acid.

While flax seeds do contain Omega-3 oils, they have some most undesirable properties: They contain an enzyme that is associated with abbreviated life-spans! They can cause loose bowels - diarrhea; and alternatively they can cause constipation when eaten with insufficient water. They can cause bloating and gas.

Black walnuts are an excellent source of mono-unsaturated fats and poly-unsaturated fats. Because of their particular combination of mono-unsaturated fats and poly-unsaturated fats along with a very low saturated fat content, they are excellent for heart health and keeping artery walls clean. Pure Oil Olive - A True Super Food!

The holy Scriptures make much note of the pure oil of the olive tree. In the tabernacle and sanctuary that God commanded Moses to build it served in multiple roles. For the seven lamps of the golden candlestick of the tent of meeting pure oil olive provided fuel to keep the lamps always burning. "And thou shalt command the children of Israel that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always." Exodus 27:20

The oil of holy ointment used to anoint the sanctuary, its furniture, and the priests that served before the Lord God was compounded from pure oil olive.
Moreover the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred sheckles, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin: And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. In the vision of Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, the pure oil olive and the olive tree have an exalted and prominent position in Zechariah's prophecy.
AND THE angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep. And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:: And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof. .... The national economy of Israel was in part tied to the production of the pure oil of the olive tree. King David of Israel appointed Baal-hanan to be overseer of the olive trees and the sycamore trees; and over the cellars of olive oil Joash was placed. "And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baal-hanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash." 1 Chronicles 27:28

In the construction of the sanctuary in the wilderness, and in the construction of the cherubim that covered the ark of God the wood of the olive tree was utilized, 1 Kings 6:23. "And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree.... ...The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees. So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall." 1 Kings 6:31-33

God has greatly exalted the 'lowly' olive tree greatly and made it to have great prominence among His people. Even in His sanctuary it figures prominently - the cherubim covering the ark of the covenant are carved from the olive tree. Consider that as the olive tree is so special to the Creator God, Jehovah, so also is the pure oil of olive endowed with very special properties.

Today in our practical world olive oil has many uses. It is used as a foodstuff [its nutrient content and value can be of enormous health benefit]. Olive oil is also used for external applications to the body, skin and hair and for beauty [soaps and cosmetics], healing [poultices and compresses], and anointing. Olive oil has some other less well known applications: for example, a Canadian hand knit 100% wool sweater recently purchased in a thrift store contains this care label - "Dry Clean or Hand Wash Luke Warm, Dry Flat, To Retain Water Repellency Add One Teaspoon of Olive Oil per Sweater to Rinse Water."

As a foodstuff [stuff used for food], olive oil is without peer. It has the highest concentration and content of Mono-Unsaturated Fatty Acid of the common food oils. The fatty acid content is as follows: 9% Poly-Unsaturated; 72% Mono-Unsaturated; and 14% Saturated. Mono-Saturated fats increase the body's levels of HDL cholesterol [the good kind] which in turn helps to removes unhealthy cholesterol from the arteries lowering the risk of heart disease.

Health authorities tell us that an HDL blood content of 75 mg/dl [dl=deciliter; 1 dl=100 ml, or about 3 1/3 ounces] is safe and will provide good protection from heart disease. An HDL blood level of no more that 25 mg/dl of blood or lower is dangerous.

The very high concentration of Mono-Unsaturated fatty acids [oils] is of very particular and noteworthy health benefit. High levels of Mono-Unsaturated fatty acids assist the body in absorbing carotenoids [notably from orange, red, yellow, but also including green fruits and vegetables] from the digestive tract.

Combined with the presence of the members of the E vitamin family (mixed tocopherols - alpha, beta, gamma, delta tocopherols, and tocotrienols), Carotenoids powerfully inhibit the growth of prostrate cancer cells. It is most likely that the growth of other cancer cells are inhibited as well.

Note that Carotenoids promote excellent eye health protecting the eyes from free radical damage. Carotenoids are Yahweh's insurance policy against macular degeneration and cataracts. Have you ever heard, 'Eat your carrots', or, 'Eat all the colors of the rainbow'?

Among all the marvelous benefits found in this wonderful oil are properties which help prevent skin cancers. And, as if that were not enough, olive oil also contains compounds which are able to slow signs of aging of the skin. Contained within this amazing foodstuff are relatively high concentrations of Omega-9 fatty acids [Oleic fatty acids], and the antioxidants hydroxytryrosol and oleuropein which are responsible for protecting the skin from Ultra-Violet radiation.

Is there a difference between 'Virgin Olive Oil' and 'Extra Virgin Olive Oil'? The answer is yes. When a man who is looking for a bride asks the father of a young woman, Is she a virgin? Should he ask, instead, Is she extra virgin?

What is the difference between 'Virgin' olive oil and 'Extra Virgin' olive oil? Both are the first pressing of the olives, and both are cold pressed. Only about 10% or even less of a producing country's first pressed, cold pressed 'Virgin' olive oil is classified as 'Extra Virgin'. There are several criteria that must be met [you might want to explore this topic and search Wikipedia]. Acidity of the olive oil is one criteria: taste of the olive oil is another: quality and type of the olives is yet another. 'Extra Virgin' olive oil may contain no more than 00.8% acid content; but 'Virgin' olive oil may be up to 02.0% acid content.

Because we are striving to achieve an 80% alkaline producing diet; and only a 20% acid producing diet, it may be that higher price of 'Extra Virgin' olive oil is justified. It is best to buy this product in glass bottles rather than plastic or canned.

'Pomace' olive oil is a product obtained either by the heating of and/or chemical extraction from subsequent pressings of the olives. Pomace oils should not be used. They are inferior and unhealthy products!

Use even the good oils such as olive oil in moderation! Avoid: lard, and the grease from all meats; especially all hydrogenated oils [margarine and shortening]; and especially cottonseed oil. Extra Virgin Olive oil is one of the very best dietary oil. Virgin Avocado Oil is very much like Extra Virgin Olive oil in its benefits: The chemistry or molecular makeup of the two oils are similar. Both oils have similar content of Omega 3; Omega 6; Omega 7; and Omega 9 essential fatty acids/oils.

Be very careful with nut and seed oils - for many nut and seed oils are pressed from roasted nuts and seeds: The heating [cooking; roasting; and baking] of the nuts renders the oils unhealthy because of the free radicals that are created when oils they contain are heated. Furthermore, seed and grain oils are often pressed from Genetically Modified Organism crops. Seed and grain oils, also, generally contain very high content of Omega 6 fatty acids which are associated with Inflammation and stimulating the inflammatory response of the immune system.

Raw Almond oil, Raw Sesame oil, and raw Grape Seed oil might not be as good as it might first appear because nut and seed oils generally contain a very large percentage of Omega 6 Oils/Fatty Acids in their make-up: Remember that it is Omega 6 oils that promote the inflammation response of the immune system. Sesame Seed oil has about double the Saturated Fat found in Olive Oil. While raw nut oils, and raw seed oils might seem to be excellent oils beware that they contain relatively high amounts of Omega-6 EFAs. Use raw sesame seed oil sparingly!

A Horse of a Very Different Color!

Virgin Organic Coconut Oil, even though it contains something like 85% to 87% Saturated Fat - we have been brain-washed to believe that all saturated fats and oils are very bad stuff - is most truly a horse of a different color: That is to say, it has an entirely different character than most saturated fats/oils: In fact, it is a very good and healthy fat/oil.

The scientific reason that Coconut Oil is so different than most saturated fats and oils is that this fat is composed of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), whereas, almost all saturated fatty acids are long-chain fatty acids (LCFA). Medium-chain fatty acids have enormous health benefits. One of the valuable benefits of Coconut oil is - Lauric Acid. Remember to use only un-refined Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. Refined Coconut Oil and Partially Hydrogenated Coconut Oils are highly inferior products, and they should not be used!

How Bad Are Unhealthy Fats?

They are bad enough that they will shorten your life and kill you. But they are worse than that because they ruin your life and health before they accomplish their end goal of killing you! All manufactured, refined, chemically or heat altered fats, esterfied, hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, trans fats, and GMO oils are unhealthy to such an extent as to kill you. Because they do not immediately cause death and debility, the danger is not immediately perceived if at all. Just as one cigarette generally does not kill a person, give him lung cancer, or cause emphysema, therefore the great health danger that tobacco represents may not be perceived; so, too, the danger of eating un-healthy dietary fats and oils is not readily apparent - many times until the damage is done and life is at its bitter end - consuming a diet rich in unhealthy fats will most certainly accomplish a bitter end.

Because heating fats and oils changes them molecularly it is important that as in the use of all food oils and especially vegetable (non-animal) based fats and oils, Olive Oil should not be heated to a cooking temperature or used in cooking, frying, baking, or the roasting of foods! Heating oils [especially vegetable oils] causes an abundance of cell ravaging 'Free Radicals' to be formed. Free radicals are extremely dangerous to human health [most especially to eye health]. And they must be absolutely avoided. Fried foods and foods baked or roasted with hot oils are plain unhealthy - they are indeed dangerous to health - 'Love not the world, nor the things of the world.' Luke 16:15; 1 John 2:15; and James 4:4

For maximum health benefits, as much as possible, we should eat fresh raw [uncooked], unprocessed foods - and that includes the healthy fats and oils, as well - they should be raw and uncooked first pressed, cold pressed, and extra virgin oils!

NOTE: Oils are essentially 'fats' in liquid form. Healthy fats and oils should comprise, perhaps, no more than twenty percent [20%] to thirty-five percent [35%] of the daily calories consumed for the majority of people. Diabetics should very carefully control their intake of Fats! Any and all heat processed or chemically processed oils, and especially GMO oils should be absolutely avoided! One gram of fat contains nine [9] calories which is more than double the four [4] calories per each gram of protein, or each gram of carbohydrate. In a 2,000 calorie diet 10% would comprise 200 calories, and 20% would be 400 calories, and 30% would be 600 calories. 30% of calories from Fats/Oils of the total calories consumed is the Federal Drug Administration's [FDA's] dietary guideline.

Those who are very active and get plenty of exercise can tolerate the larger amount of the healthy, raw, and un-processed fats in their diet. Those who are more sedentary [inactive] or have diabetes should very carefully limit their fat intake. And absolutely no heat processed (cooked) fats or oils; chemically processed or altered fats or oils; nor any funny-named fats (esterfied fats/trans fats); and never any oils from GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms)! It would be in every bodies best interest to avoid those things listed just above: Heat Processed (cooked) fats or oils; Chemically Processed or Altered fats and oils; and any/all fats or oils from GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms)!

Because it is absolutely necessary to include a sufficient amount of good healthy fats and oils in the diet: It is essential to know how to use them. Here is an eating strategy that will be of great benefit to all: Add good healthy fats and oils only to food when it is at no more than eating/serving temperatures. Then do not reheat the food with the added oils/fats above the eating/serving temperatures! This takes a lot of diligence! It is so easy to leave food on the stove or in the oven too long. It takes determined effort to change eating and food preparation habits; but, in a small amount of time, by following these guidelines you will give your body and the bodies of those you love and care for a great big health benefit!

We often pray saying, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Have you thought that it is we who are to do the Creator's good will? It is not His will that we should suffer and be in poor health! Rather, it is His will that we should be healthy and of a sound mind. Diet and lifestyle have so very much to do with our doing His good will. The Word of God says that God will save His people by knowledge. Let us get smart and learn how to take care of these temples in which we dwell! Aw-mane' and Aw-mane'.

Considering that each gram of fat is nine [9] calories, then, by dividing the number of 'fat' calories by 9 we can derive the total weight of that amount of dietary fat in grams. Dividing 200 by 9 equals approximately 22.2 grams. Dividing 400 by 9 equals 44.4 grams. One ounce equals approximately 28.35 grams. Therefore, in the 10% model for a 2,000 calorie diet no more than approximately three-quarters [3/4] of an ounce of fat should be consumed daily. In the 20% model, no more than one and one-half [1 1/2] ounces of fat should be eaten daily.

The U.S.A. governmental guidelines for fat consumption say that less than 65 grams [approx. 2 5/16 ounce], or about 30%, of daily fat in a 2,000 calorie diet is safe; and that less than 80 grams [approx. 2 7/8 ounces] of daily fat in a 2,500 calorie diet is safe. Considering our lack of activity [read that as exercise] the upper limits that the government has prescribed may be dangerous. And considering the epidemic of diabetes in the developing world, these levels are either too generous, or the people are getting far too little exercise, or that, perhaps, both are true!

Using the 'safer' 20% guideline, 500 fat calories is safe and sane for an active person eating a 2,500 calorie diet, and that equals approximately 55.6 grams [approx. 2 ounces] of maximum fat intake. For a young and very active person consuming a daily caloric intake of 3000 calories, 600 calories or 66.7 grams [approx. 2 3/8 ounces] of fat should not be exceeded. The 'safest' guideline of 10% of total calories consumed being 'good' fats would be one-half [1/2] of the values just listed in the 20% model.

Use great caution! The use of un-healthy dietary fats and oils can cause Diabetes!. And a lack of daily exercise hugely complicates the matter. Or perhaps it may be better said that lack of daily exercise and excess use of un-healthy dietary fat cause diabetes!

Glycation, is a particular problem in the use of unhealthy fats. Glycation occurs when sugar molecules combine with proteins (blood cells); and it causes the worst imaginable damage! Glycation and AGEs - Advanced Glycation End-Products - is/are the real basic root problem of the danger of diabetes. Briefly the problem with consuming un-healthy fats and oils is that the cell's insulin receptors become blocked. That mechanism by which cell receptors become unable to accept insulin is little understood. Because the insulin can no longer metabolize the sugar within the cell, an abundance of excess sugars build up in the blood stream. When this happens the sugar will attach itself to individual blood cells (protein). This is called Glycation and the blood cells become bonded with sugar molecules. These blood cells bonded with sugar molecules are called AGEs - Advanced Glycation End-Products. The action of the these sugar bonded blood cells, AGEs, with in the circulatory system is much like the action of free radicals on the cells of the body. As AGEs travel through the circulatory system. They wreak havoc on the walls and linings of the blood vessels and destroy the capillaries of the micro circulatory system! Infinitely worse than the damage that free radicals can cause within the cell is the damage caused by AGEs. This is particularly true because the AGEs remain present through-out the life of blood cells that have become glycated - a blood cell will live anywhere from 100 to 120 days. Free radicals can be scavenged out of the body by vitamins and anti-oxidants; but AGEs are constantly and continually wreaking their destruction on the micro circulatory system of capillaries in the body for up to four months. When the micro circulatory system becomes so damaged that tissues no longer can receive sufficient oxygen, individual cells begin to die and then organs begin to be damaged, shut down, and die!

Using an un-calibrated set of household plastic measuring spoons, one Teaspoon of oil weighed approximately four [3.9] grams, or approximately .138 ounce - and one Tablespoon weighed approximately fourteen [13.7] grams, or approximately .483 ounce, almost one-half [1/2] ounce. Using stainless steel tableware counterparts, the weights varied considerably, but were generally somewhat less.

Rather than using oils to cook with, food oils are best used by adding good healthy oils to foods at room temperature or to food that has cooled down to a comfortable eating temperature. Olive oil makes excellent salad dressings. Dressing Recipe: One tablespoon of first cold pressed [virgin/extra virgin] Olive Oil; some [a pinch] turmeric; some [a pinch] marjoram; celery seeds; fennel; try experimenting with ground caraway seed; add one tablespoon of lemon or lime juice; sea salt to taste, and a generous three to four cloves of fresh chopped garlic make a superb and healthy dressing for fresh green salads, and fresh raw and/or cooked vegetables. This is adequate for a large bowl of salad or several servings of vegetables. I like to sprinkle a little [perhaps just a few drops] Sesame Seed Oil on the salad/vegetables to enhance the flavor of the olive oil.

Note that sesame seed oil is a rich source of Omega-6 fatty acids [Gamma Linoleic fatty acids]. Omega-6 oils are Essential Fatty Acids [EFA]. That is they are necessary to human health, but they are not produced by the body, and therefore must come from our diet. Omega-6 EFAs support a healthy inflammation response of the body's natural healing process. But also note that, There is usually [very rarely] no shortage of Omega-6 oils in the diet. In the Standard American Diet - SAD - there is almost always an over abundance of Omega-6 oils in the diet.

Essential Fatty Acids [EFAs - Omega-3 and Omega-6] are necessary/essential for optimum health; but they must be consumed in the proper ratios for maximum health benefits. Some experts suggest that, for perfect health, a one to one (1:1) ratio [which would likely be obtainable using Chia Seeds, Salvia Hispanica, --but you are hereby advised to study the side effects of this food source just click on the Chia Seeds and the Salvia Hispanica links just above-- which are extraordinarily high in Omega-3 fatty acids (Alpha Linolenic fatty acids)] is the best way or proportion with which to consume these oils - EFAs.

Others say that a one to one ratio is an improbable, and an generally unobtainable goal considering the modern western diet which is inundated in vegetable oils rich in the ubiquitous Omega-6 EFAs. They suggest that a one portion of Omega-3 EFAs to four portions of Omega-6 EFAs (1:4) ratio is adequate and safe. The very 'SAD' western diet is much more likely to consist of a ratio of: one portion of Omega-3 EFAs to sixteen portions of Omega-6 EFAs (1:16) ratio!

I strongly suggest incorporating English or Persian walnuts, and black walnuts into your diet because of their substantial Omega-3 content. But use caution in the case of Nut Allergies! Also use this food sparingly as it is nearly all fat and protein. Likewise I want to suggest to you to try and find ways to limit your consumption of Omega-6 EFAs so that your diet consist of a 'healthier or safer' ratio of Omega-3 EFAs to Omega-6 EFAs.

Is it any wonder that we suffer so many Inflammatory Diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, and diabetes? We should not be surprised! We need to increase our intake of Omega-3 oils, while at the same time decreasing our intake of the ubiquitous Omega-6 oils. Remember that walnuts are an especially rich source of Omega-3 oils. Chia seeds contain a very rich abundance of Omega-3 oils.

Here is an excellent, and very, very simple Recipe: for a Butter Substitute: One-half to one tablespoon (or more) of first cold pressed [virgin/extra virgin] Olive Oil (Organic Virgin Coconut Oil might just be an even better choice) drizzled on toast, bread, potatoes, cooked or fresh vegetables and lightly sprinkled with salt makes a delicious butter replacement. Caution! Wait until the food has cooled to eating temperature! Remember to make the use of the pure extra virgin oil, olive, a regular part of your healthy diet. God has given to His children this marvelous food, Olive Oil, and it healthful and healing properties!

Perhaps an even superior Recipe: for a Butter Substitute is made using Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. Depending on your taste, the food, and the amount of food to be 'buttered', scoop anywhere from a teaspoon to maybe two or three tablespoons of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil on to the food after it has been cooked and cooled to serving/eating temperature. If it is a firm food like a piece of toast you can spread the Coconut Oil over the item and lightly salt it: If the food item is soft or liquid the Coconut Oil can be mixed in and the food lightly salted to taste. Because Coconut Oil solidifies at temperatures below seventy-six degrees Fahrenheit (76°F) it will be a solid sometimes and a liquid sometimes. If the food item to which you desire to add Coconut Oil is cooler than 76°;F the food will need to be heated a little above 76°. Alternately you can melt the Coconut Oil and pour it on the food or use it for dipping your food into - think Artichoke! You can also do both. Solid Coconut Oil can be easily melted by placing the desired amount of Coconut Oil in a cup and then placing the cup in hot water so that it nearly floats - stir the Coconut Oil until it is melted.


Unleashing the Power of Garlic to Heal & Maintain Good Health

To be sure, garlic has awesome and wonderful and tremendous properties that can be beneficial to our health. But there is at least one prime condition to realizing the power of this potent plant and releasing its benefits.

Garlic has great potential for maintaining and restoring good health. Benefits such as preventing disease, healing disease, and promoting general overall health are to be found in this humble little bulb.

However, the realization of the wonderful health properties of garlic may be likened to the releasing or realization of the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian believer. Just as there are some conditions to the releasing of the power of the Holy Spirit; there is at least one very simple, but specific condition to releasing the health benefits of garlic.

In the case of the Christian believer, this verse from Acts 5:32 will lead us to a deeper knowledge of the truth; "...The Holy Ghost [Spirit], whom God hath given to them that obey him." Authorized King James version. Very simply, God gives the Holy Spirit to those who are obedient to His Gospel. While we are able to find some other conditions such as belief, trust, fasting, and prayer; obedience is a prime condition to the releasing of God's power.

The Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Malnutrition from Lack; and Malnutrition of Excess

Satan works only to beguile [deceive] and destroy God's people. Malnutrition caused by excess consumption of wrong foods does indeed seem to be 'wonderful' to the one who indulges himself.

Diseases such as osteo-arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, obesity, and a vast multitude of other diseases, are caused by an improper diet [malnutrition] which weakens the immune system, saps vital life forces, leaches calcium and other vital minerals and elements from our bones and organs, and destroys health. Why in the wealthy and industrialized nations of the earth where the food supply is abundant are people who have ready access to more than an adequate number of food calories suffering from such a vast variety of diseases? What has become of the people who God created to live for an eternity? Well, simply stated, sin entered into the world. The enemy of our souls, Satan, has beguiled us; and we are found deceived. But it need not be that way! Take heart in the story of Daniel and his three friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah found in the book of Daniel, chapter one. We have good and godly counsels about diet in the Scriptures; and we also have the work and the writings of the prophets that God, rising up early, has sent to us.

One such prophet was sister Ellen G. White who spent a large portion of her earthly ministry teaching God's people about correct diet and healthy lifestyle. Her ministry spanned both the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries. She wrote many volumes of pages, and a large portion of it was devoted to keeping God's people well, and in good health. She not only taught the maintenance of good health, but she also had a ministry of healing the sick!

The information and knowledge she presented was 'far ahead' of her time. Even though it is information and knowledge that once, long ago, was known and practiced by God's people. But it has been long forgotten and lost because the people of God had departed from, and separated themselves from their God. Ellen White's ministry, in part, was to help God's people restore that which had long ago been lost and forgotten; and to re-learn and re-acquire the old ways, the ways that God had established in the garden of Eden - the ways of health and prosperity of the soul.

Ellen White taught that there were eight natural laws [principles] of health. She enumerated them as: Trust in God; Fresh Air; Daily Exercise; Sunshine; Adequate Sleep and Rest; Pure Water; Temperance in all Things; Proper Nutrition and Diet. They are all equally important. And one is not more or less important than 'his brothers'. All are of vital importance!

80% Alkaline - 20% Acid Producing Foods Diet

Rebuilding the Traditional Food Pyramid

Sometimes we learn things and accept them as absolute [arrant] truth. But the teachings are wrong and in error. For the majority of my life I believed in the spurious [false] theory of evolution. However, when I truly applied myself to the study of the holy Word of God I was forced to choose between the awesome power of God's seven day creation and the ever so false theory of evolution that I had been taught in public schools, and bombarded with [brainwashed] on television and in the media. And it seemed very difficult, at that time, to discard what I had dearly held to be the truth for such long time. But it was a matter of trusting in God and His word, a matter of acting on [walking by] faith, or believing man's wisdom to be superior to God's wisdom. There is much that needs to be re-learned, and many things to be discarded as false teachings.

One such that we have been taught by the wisdom of men is the teaching of the tradition 'food pyramid'. We are beginning to learn that it is not correct. How could this be so? Well look around you!

We see all sorts of diseases [heart disease, cancers, diabetes, arthritis, and etc] increasing with such rapidity that it astounds the mind: these things have become epidemic in proportion, if not pandemic. And consider how the health care system is being overwhelmed, the costs of health care spiraling out of sight, and the national economies of the world are reeling from the cost of health care. Something is clearly and drastically wrong!

Could it possibly be that which we are eating? Can it be that: that which we have been taught is safe and good for us to eat is neither safe, nor even good? I absolutely believe this to be the case. As we learn more fully what God's plan is for our lives, it becomes clearer, and yet clearer to the sight that dietary reform is necessary. Spiritual health is directly tied to physical health. We must return to God's original plan. We need to abandon that which is not profitable; we need to abandon the ways of the world for we are only pilgrims and sojourners here, this is not our home!

In John's third epistle to the church, John pens the greeting: "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." 3 John 2. The soul [physical body] does not, cannot, prosper if it is not healthy. It is plain and clear to see that God's express desire is that His people 'be in health'. And this is so that we might prosper in all things spiritual - especially His wonderful salvation. "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification...." 1 Thessalonians 4:3.

Because it is God's great desire to save His people from this present evil and wicked world [Galatians 1:4; 1 John 5:19], He has given us good and comprehensive counsels in His Word. In the book of Genesis we are instructed: "And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food...." "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it...." Genesis 2:8; 2:16-17. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." Genesis 1:29. And God saw that it was very good. Genesis 1:31.

The book of Genesis gives us a right concept of what is a good and acceptable diet in the eyes of the Lord God. Where in the book of Genesis did you see unclean and defiling foods such as, pizza, sushi, hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, greasy fried foods, frozen entrees, cakes, candy, cokes and sodas, coffee and tea, ice cream, malts and shakes, or any of the other 'wonderful' dainty destructive delicacies of the world? They are not there because God knew they would be for our harm and not for our good. We have held on to the traditional teachings of our fathers so long that we will have a very difficult time giving up that which is not good; and our tastes are perverted [conditioned] by wrong things that harm us.

The traditional food pyramid is at best a compromise with the world. It tries to accommodate that which God meant for us to eat, and that which our perverted taste have been taught to prefer. But compromise with worldly taste is not God's plan. In Ezekiel we will read of a time when the restoration of all things is complete. "And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed [be wasted - spoil or rot]: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine." Ezekiel 47:12. Fruit of the trees and their leaves will be the basis of our diet to come. In addition we shall have every herb bearing seed. The diet that was given to man in the Garden of Eden will be restored to man.

Godly wisdom is that if we should choose that which is good in place of that which is not good, we will do very well to accept with great joy that which God gave to us originally, and that which is to be restored to us in the times of restoration. The traditional 'food pyramid' needs a radical 'make-over'. The food pyramid needs to be re-structured according to the instructions of books of Genesis, Ezekiel, Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy.

Food Additives and Preservatives

Almost all processed and almost all commercially prepared foods contain food additives and preservatives - they are everywhere in the commercial food supply. If we are to return to God in truth and in spirit, then God's people must return to the original diet that God gave man! Dr. Thomas Jackson of M.E.E.T. Ministry states flat out without any equivocation or hesitation that food preservatives cause arthritis!

Now we are currently being alerted to the danger of combining vitamin C and benzoate of soda. Benzoate of soda is a very, very common food preservative found in many processed and commercially prepared food products. And when it is combined chemically with vitamin C the results can be hazardous to our health. The product formed by combining vitamin C and benzoate of soda chemically is a compound called benzene. Benzene is a known carcinogen!

Irradiated Foods

Irradiated Foods. In a recent study [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 09;106:6832-6836] scientist at the University of Wisconsin, researching whether the body has the ability to rebuild and re grow nerve tissue [myelin in this case - the fatty tissue that sheathes the nerves], conducted their study using pregnant cats as their subjects. But first, in order to conduct their studies, the scientist needed cats with damaged/destroyed myelin. So to destroy the myelin sheath around the nerves, researchers fed the cats irradiated food.

The irradiated food did exactly as the scientist knew that it would, it destroyed the fatty myelin sheaths that surrounds the nerve stems and cells. According to Dr. David G. Williams, the researchers needed to feed the cats the irradiated foods for only a very short period of time: their goal of destroying the fatty myelin insulation sheath surrounding the nerves was accomplished in only three to four months! The pregnant cats after eating a diet of irradiated food then exhibited all the classic symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis, MS.

A hopeful note here is that three to four months after resuming a normal non-irradiated diet, the pregnant cats, though their myelin nerve insulation was not completely and totally restored, enough myelin was reformed so that the cats became 'functionally' normal and major portions of the myelin were restored.

Our government [U.S.A.] has approved irradiation of some parts of the food supply in this country. Specifically, fruits, and vegetables - iceberg lettuce, and spinach are approved by the FDA to be irradiated! Red meats, poultry, and some shellfish are also approved for irradiation. Watch for the "Radura" logo along with the statement: "Treated with/by radiation".

But a missing "Radura" logo and its accompanying statement are no guarantee that the food has not been irradiated!


There are loopholes in this requirement. Consider the case of bulk foods that carry no package labeling. Or, when a re-seller [wholesaler or other purchaser or supplier] purchases a food commodity in bulk [or otherwise] that has a "Radura" label/logo on it; he is not required to re-label it with a "Radura" label/logo when he re-packages the food commodity! In effect this loophole makes the labeling requirement of no effect!
